Soroptimist International of Los Angeles (SILA) is proud to recognize and honor local women and girls for their hard work and service to their communities and families. Annually, SILA accepts applications for our awards which are presented at our annual Spring luncheon. This year's Spring Luncheon will be held on Friday, March 16th at The California Club 538 S. Flower St. Los Angeles, California.

SILA Graduate Student Fellowship Award

Application deadline: December 15, 2017



This  award, in the amount of $3,500, is given to a women who will be in graduate study during the next academic year.

Field of Study: Open, but consideration will be given to the candidate’s potential contribution to society.

Competition is open to women who are citizens of the United States and residents of the State of California. Preference will be given to young women completing their graduate education rather than to those making career changes.

Minimum requirements:

1. A candidate must have received a Bachelor’s degree (or will receive it prior to the next academic year)
2. Be (or will be during the next academic year) enrolled in a graduate degree (Master’s or Doctor’s) program at an accredited institution of higher education in Los Angeles County.
3. Have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.
4. Have financial need.
5. Have performed services for her community.
6. File completed application materials, including official college transcript(s) of all upper division (junior and senior years) and graduate level work, and three letters of recommendation.

A personal interview, to be held in March, is required of the final candidates. The candidate selected will be notified shortly after the interviews and must be available to accept the award at a designated luncheon meeting to be held in March or April.

Live Your Dream: Education & Training Awards for Women

The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards (formerly known as the Women’s Opportunity Awards) assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. 

Deadline: Applications are due each year by November 15th

Step 1: Determine if you are eligible. Complete the ELIGIBILITY CHECKLIST by clicking here.

Step 2: Click here to fill out the application.
Note: Once all parts of the form are completed, select "Save As" from the "File" menu and change the file name (for example, "lyd_applicationLG.pdf," where "LG" are your initials.) Click "Save."

Step 3: Obtain References
You will need two different people to fill out the reference form ("lyd_reference-form.pdf"). Please email this form to your references and request that they email the forms back to you when completed.

Step 4: Mail your application so that it will arrive by November 15th to the following address:
